Lieven D'Haese’s new sculpture The Pilot embodies the purity of a child’s dream—of a young boy who, in all his innocence, yearns to rise, free as a bird. D'Haese, a master in the art of capturing moments of eternity, presents us here with a masterpiece filled with poetry and tenderness.
The young boy, eyes closed, throws a paper plane with touching concentration and grace. This seemingly simple gesture carries the full power of a dream: a child’s act of faith that transcends reality, inviting the viewer to recall their own childhood ambitions, filled with freedom and hope. His serene face expresses the intensity of the moment, as if he could feel the promise of flight under his fingers, a takeoff towards an endless horizon.
Each sculpture of Lieven D'Haese is a "trip". It makes you travel through the memory and the imagination. This is the magic of his symbolic work and his "savoir-faire" with the sculpture and the foundry work. The subject awakes something deep inside and makes the art lover travel somewhere inside.
