The theme of this work is “double happiness”. Two pink "double happiness" in Chinese characters are interspersed faintly throughout the painting. This is also a special Chinese character used only in traditional weddings. "Double happiness" represents the Chinese people's best blessing to a new couple for a love over a hundred of years. The black, white and green color mosaic blocks form into a labyrinth full of changes, movement and surprise... The two people seem to have passed through the test of time and distance, and finally found each other and fell in love...
LI Guofang boldly tried innovative experimental ink in this one of his last contemporary ink paintings, which perfectly combines the traditional Chinese painting brushwork and philosophy with new ways of composition and expression. Different natural mineral pigments and amazing details are layered on the rice paper thinly, intersecting and interacting into each other.
