As a child, I was already much bigger than the other children and “giraffe” was my nickname in the school playground. In fact, this resemblance pleased me. This peaceful animal has a lanky grace, airy and wild and with large soft eyes. It is one of the rare animals which dates back to prehistoric times and one with which we can identify emotionally. Besides, she is silent and, personally, I don’t like to talk too much either. I went from a «classic» representation to an anthropomorphic representation to tell the stories of women. Hieratic giraffes, a kind of savannah virgins with reference to the theme of mother and child, beautiful and dominant giraffes chatting in groups, sometimes pregnant and with their rhino companions. A funny mixture. In art everything is open.
Sophie Verger is a fairy who knows how to transform an emotion into an animal, a sensation, a felling in a recollected memory. She also suggests to us with a lot of humor a lovable identification with the animal model and beyond this observation the fact that in all her work, the child alone has its place with her, spontaneously capable of including the existence of the animal in her own fundamental values.
