This artwork also expressed the seclusion conception of ancient Chinese literati.
Different from the traditional realistic landscape
painting, the artist used strong colors of green, blue, black and white, and
various abstract ink splashes to show the woods, lake, water reflection and
snow mountain. Although it is not an exact description of reality, it is full
of artistic conception and alludes to the complicated real life of the present
age. In contrast, the courtyard composed of Zen room, grasses and trees in the
traditional painting style. The artwork is full of a quiet, calm and free
atmosphere. This not only paid homage to the ancient literati's seclusion, and
also reappeared time and space to express the moral of keeping a peaceful
heart.
Provenance
Seclusion is a profound cultural phenomenon in Chinese history. Hermits, first of all, they are accomplished scholars, and then didn’t follow the official positions for various reasons. For instance, Laozi returned to nature. Confucius chose to seclusion when his ambition to build a better nation couldn’t be allowed at a time. This is a kind of balance mentality and unique aesthetic experience that ancient literati found, facing to the contradiction between ideal and reality.Exposities

Literature
Backyard of Tipo Mountain Temple 深山藏古寺
“The first light of the morning lights up the trees under a snow mountain.
The winding path leads to the secluded place,
Small Zen houses are surrounded by trees and grasses.
The mountain light is pleasant to birds,
and the lake shadow makes heart empty.
All sounds are still, except for the chimes. ”
- CHANG Jian, Tang Dynasty (708-765)
